Activities

The Jr. Posse kids participate in all kinds of activities that are not only fun but provide unique opportunities to learn and grow.  Our activities are developed to support our Programs, which include:

Ranch Management: Animal Husbandry (anatomy, physiology, life cycles, ecology) and complete care and handling of horses, including tack, feed, stalls, transportation, grooming and grounds.

Riding Skills: Training (Body mechanics, balance, etiquette), competition in English and Western style events, and safe recreation

Education: Mentoring, Self Development (Self-Esteem, Self confidence, Responsibility), certification in Ranching and Riding skills

Outreach: Exposing underpriviledged youth and other children and programs to equestrian and ranch lifestyles and activities

The Jr Posse has assembled its programs based on a student self development approach to building upstanding citizens. The riding activities are used as the foundation and carrot to get participants involved and open to learning the need to work on the Ranch in order to earn riding time, to meet both academic and Jr Posse education requirements to remain eligible for riding program activities. Further, the Education Program uses a case management approach for tracking student participation and perfermance in all programs. The Out-Reach Program makes sure the community at-large is aware of Jr Posse opportunities and activities, as well as to give Jr Posse participants community service opportunities.
